Abstract or Introduction

Frankenheimer’s Manchurian Candidate is one of the most sophisticated movies in Hollywood where you need to analyze, think and scratch beneath the surface to get things and understand them. In addition to many other factors in the movie script, the role
of the media affects the events of the story deeply. To some extent, media played a similar significant role in Oliver Stone’s JFK.

There are some similarities between the two movies in some scenes where the press is involved. First, media seems to be participating in the manipulation of truths in a way that may be taken for granted. In the scene where Raymond Shaw receives his
medal; the press do not seem interested in the whole incident, although it is the centre of their being there, the American flag is emphasized but suddenly ‘ Mrs. Iselin bursts through a rank of soldiers, drawing the camera’s attention away from the flag to herself.’ (Coates 1993)
