The revolution of the United States foreign policy following the civil war has steadily advanced and this have resulted to formation of regional and international policies. United States military policy openly calls for full spectrum supremacy over all possible opponents, in every class of warfare, for the unknown future. This policy covers the mechanism of the earth’s outer space and atmosphere, where countless disastrous weapons have recently been used. Under no circumstances in world history has one country applied such power over the rest of the world or take out such massive economic advantage (Berkin et. al., 2013). By the mid-20th century, the United States had become the leading force in international relations. Some have argued that the United States military operates as the world police. This is evident in the recent participation of United States military in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iran and other parts in the Middle East. Currently, United States has been the perfect instance of the police of the world. This particular piece of work is meant to discuss that United States military should operate as the world police by depicting the recent operations in different parts of the world.
Former administrations in the United States undertook various actions to prevent occurrence of world wars in future. Since America have emerged as the major super power in the world, it has expelled other nations from further nuclear advancement (Voeten, 2004). Its main objective is to ensure supremacy and stability over the nations. Therefore, so that it can retain its supremacy status, U.S. has employed various international policies. For instance, it has prevented nuclear weapon advancement programs in nations such as China, Sudan and North Korea. In addition, it has played a major role by taking action against Afghanistan and Iraq. Based on these instances, America has acted as the superpower since the occurrence of Civil War. The United States feared the involvement of other nations around the globe in barring of nuclear weapons because this could make the competition stiff. In this circumstance, America has halted use of nuclear weapons in Korea and Iraq by using its military (Wolfe, 2012).
The rise to status of a superpower that the United States now enjoys can be traced back to the removal of the British military and naval superiority plus the importance of the role played in 1918 at the end of World War I. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, the United States became the world’s sole superpower. At that moment, some suggested that it was the end of history. Numerous around the globe also claimed that democracy and peace would sweep across the world. However, it did not turn out that way, of course, and some say that it is because the United States is avoiding its responsibilities. Voeten (2004) argues that the industrial revolution has also transformed the United States into one large economic power. In addition, World War II enabled United States to create the mightiest military that has never existed in the World. In this case, the lasting damage that this war caused in most of the major countries in the world gave the United States a couple of decades of production with no competition, which further improved the country as the world’s economic leader and super power (Berkin et. al., 2013).
Significantly, expansion of economy was vital in the United States’ rise to world-power status. This factor enabled its leadership to build a strong and influential nation. This was a result of the administration financing its major military, the navy. Furthermore, through international cooperation and trade, the values, cultural influences and beliefs of the United States were improved. The rising population in the United States offered a solid basis for further development in industry and agriculture. The bases of American prosperity were largely connected to geography and geology (Wolfe, 2012). This is because, there was variety of minerals across U.S. territory and the soil also facilitated efficient agriculture. It is also significant to note that America’s unique geographical location provided a higher degree of security than in European nations. Technological advancement perfected production methods, advanced infrastructure and enabled output performance and quality. In other words, United States’ abilities in technology assisted decision-makers to undertake projects of important commercial and political value. (Voeten, 2004) In general, economic power surfaced the way for other sorts of power in the United States. This means that the wise utilization of America’s wealth and the powers it conveyed, enabled U.S. to assume a leading international role.
The major objective for the United States to participate in World War 1 was due to Germany unrestricted submarine warfare that affected American interest. Emotional and economic relations made the progress of trade with France and Britain domineering. This caused the opposition to push for intervention thus triggering pressure between all allies. In addition, economic entrances, primarily banks adding Britain with large amounts of funds, had a stake in relations victory. World War I was the nasty part of a long-run peacekeeping struggle. The victory would symbolize the finale of all major wars thus making world safe for democracy, and generate solid base for his League of Nations. In this case, diplomacy would become the only conflict resolution method and it would mark the final stages of World War 1. America’s victory in World War 1 hardened and illustrated the rise of United States global power eminence. According to Berkin et. al. (2013), the fact that America resources majorly permitted the relations to prevail and this gave America massive fame in global and European affairs. Analytically, America was one of the participants in the Paris Peace Treaties, determining simultaneously the future of European nations and the rest of the world. The decline of Britain and Germany triggered United States rise to its eminence as the major super power. This has resulted to increased America’s economic security and pre-prosperity. In other words, the collapse of France, Germany and British resulted to a comparative growth of United States military and economic status. This balance of power prevented Germany from becoming a European super power and secured America’s relations. Generally, the declining of other great powers facilitated United States security and prosperity in Western countries, making it impossible for any European power to contest this.
However, the occurrence of Second World War also played a vital role in determining the international strategies. For instance, America has started applying FBI investigative body in international operations. FBI is well recognized for its participation in every corner of the world. In this circumstance, such organization is known for collaborating with other global military departments across the world. In addition, the United States also help other nations that require modification in their internal affairs by offering them an enormous legislation making organization. These internal affairs are significant for America since it have a progressive effect on the internal affairs and economy of the United States when it participates in solving ongoing issues of other countries (Hoffmann & Reid, 2005). An additional international incident since World War II where America has taken on a policing role is the actions America took to counter communist system of Soviet Union. The associates and opposition of the United States against Soviet Union led to emergence of cold war. The occurrence of this was endured until U.S. attained power over this Union. It is significant to note that after occurrence of Second World War, the United States supported communities from nations such as Poland and Russia. The communities were against the ruling administrations and they wanted to push for capitalistic and democratic administration.
